Smart. Smarter. Sorghum – KWS at the European Sorghum Congress

Sorghum is gaining momentum – not only as an agronomic alternative, but as a strategic response to the challenges of modern agriculture. As a co-designer of sustainable and future-oriented farming systems, KWS aims to enrich traditional crop rotations by integrating Sorghum as a resilient and resource-efficient C4 crop.
KWS has been actively engaged in Sorghum breeding and production since 2007, with the goal of adding another C4 crop to the rotation alongside corn. Since 2013, the company has focused on grain Sorghum breeding, targeting high yield potential, strong disease resistance, and early to mid-early maturity – particularly suited for Southern, Southeastern, and Eastern Europe, where Sorghum cultivation is most prominent. KWS offers Sorghum varieties suitable for all major usage directions, supporting the full value chain from field to final application.
In addition to its breeding efforts, KWS invests in innovative technologies that support sustainable farming. One of its latest developments is KWS INITIO Hydro+, a seed treatment designed to address one of Sorghum’s key challenges: youth development under cold and dry conditions. By combining macronutrients, a fungicide, organic acids, and a water absorber, INITIO Hydro+ protects the seed immediately after sowing and promotes fast germination, strong root growth, and improved plant vitality. The result: increased drought tolerance, better nutrient uptake, and a stronger foundation for yield and performance.
KWS will be present at the European Sorghum Congress in Budapest on October 8–9, 2025, and is looking forward to presenting their latest developments in Sorghum and to engaging in expert discussions with you.
