Food Workshop

Agrifood industry operators can rely on sorghum in all confidence.

It is a crop that meets today’s consumers’ expectations at all levels: health, traceability, and local production under environment-friendly conditions.

Sorghum is a source of plant proteins, iron, B6 vitamins, niacin, phosphorous, potassium, and others. Energising and rich in antioxidants, sorghum is also gluten-free – therefore harmless to allergic persons. Sorghum is also a good source of food fibre. Not surprisingly, the agrifood industry is increasingly interested in sorghum. Among these professionals are Monia Caramma, agrifood researcher, Dr. Zoltán Gergácz, Head of the Administrative Board of Kányai Mezőgazdasági Zrt and Simon Le Fur, co-founder of Aventure Bio (in Occitanie), both of whom will hold presentations at the conference.

Monia Carrama

From Curiosity to Innovation: Monia Caramma’s Journey

Behind every agrifood advancement are people with a vision. Italian researcher Monia Caramma has come to be a leading expert in the field thanks to her rigorous and humane approach. For over ten years, she has been focusing all her research on sorghum – a grain crop of exceptional potential for Europe’s sustainable agriculture.

What drives Monia Caramma ever further in her daily work is not only science but also genuine intellectual curiosity, a passion for functional food, and unabated tenacity.

What motivates me, essentially, is the need to turn scientific knowledge into actual solutions for human health and agricultural sustainability”, she states. At present, Monia Caramma’s works inspire producers, companies, and researchers in their quest to build a new agrifood model, which is both healthy and sustainable. So what opportunities can sorghum offer to European agriculture? Monia Caramma opens up that road.
