Diversification Workshop

Sorghum – a raw material in step with the times

Thanks to sorghum’s genetic diversity and to the European breeders’ work, many sorghum varieties exist today that have high biomass yields and/or compositions that are well-adapted to various types of bioenergy production. Thus methane, bioenergies, paper, plasticisers, and dyes are some of the outlets that sorghum provides to ag industry operators.
Among these professionals are Rafael Parrella, bioenergy and biomass expert; John Duff, founder of Serō Ag Strategies and a consultant with the U.S. National Sorghum Producers, and Francis Borges, international expert in the development of biofuel industries. All three of them will share their experience at the conference.

Rafael Parrella

Will be present at the European Sorghum Conference in October, in Budapest, with a major topic: bioenergy!

We have the pleasure to announce the participation of Mr. Rafael Parrella, a leading expert in bioenergy and biomass!
With a long-standing background of applied research in the field of sorghum conversion into renewable energy, Mr. Parrella will present actual case studies related to biofuel production and its agronomic uses, as well as give practical advice to farmers who wish to diversify their activity.

  • Farmers, are you interested in optimizing your sorghum crops?
  • Researchers and operators in the field, are you ready to debate about the innovative solutions that can help make the energy transition?

John Duff

Sorghum: the energy source of the future. John Duff’s global vision at the European Sorghum Conference

John Duff, founder of Serō Ag Strategies and consultant for the U.S. National Sorghum Producers will take part in a round table on the global development of sorghum for bioenergy.
As a well-known expert in sustainable development and economic and agricultural development, John Duff acts as a veritable link between producers and industry. During this section of the conference, he will share his expertise on the following aspects:

  • the strategic role of sorghum in the ethanol industry,
  • the benefits of sorghum as a low-input crop, especially when used as a cover crop or grown on marginal lands;
  • how the characteristics of sorghum make it a potential solution for producing energy sustainably, in the future.

Francis Borges

Sorghum – Tomorrow’s Biofuel Engine: Francis Borges to Share His Expertise at the European Sorghum Conference

As part of the bioenergy workshops, during the European Sorghum Conference (held in Budapest between October 8th and 9th), Francis Borges, a leading international expert in the development of biofuel industries, will have a key presentation.
With over thirty years’ experience worldwide, Francis Borges will present an in-depth strategic and technical vision on the bioenergy potential of sorghum, based on his latest research:

  • applications of first-generation bioethanol (1G);
  • progress made in the production of second-generation bioethanol (2G) and improvements in its effectiveness;
  • opportunities and challenges in biogas production;
  • innovations in the „Alcohol-to-Jet” technology, to produce sustainable fuel for the aviation.

Mr. Borges’ presentation is a must for all of those who wish to understand how sorghum can integrate into the great industrial transitions towards renewable energies.
