Resilient Agriculture Day – Sorghum Day – August 25, 2026

Technical event focused on sorghum cultivation, featuring expert presentations and a field visit

The event will take place on August 25, 2026, at the headquarters of Agromec Gîrbovi S.A. (Ialomița County, Romania) and will be entirely dedicated to sorghum. As part of the field activities, growers and industry professionals will have the opportunity to assess firsthand the agronomic and economic potential of this crop.

To facilitate communication and the exchange of experiences, presentations and discussions will take place alongside the experimental plots, in a specially designated area.

Conference opening: Tanguy Braastad (head of promotional activities at FNPSMS) and Iulia Blagu (event host and farm manager) will welcome the participants.

Let the discussions begin!

Cultivation technology and local conditions: This session, organized by the APPR Forum (an association active in the sorghum sector since 2017) in collaboration with Iulia Blagu, will include presentations based on practical experience in managing challenges such as weed infestation and frost, as well as crop harvesting.

Prospects for sorghum cultivation in Romania; agronomic aspects: Cristina Radu (director of the Center for Applied Research and Innovation within the APPR Forum and AQUAGRI-KNOW ambassador) will analyze the opportunities offered by sorghum in the Romanian context. Thiziri Sidi Saïd (regional engineer at ARVALIS) will deliver a technical presentation on the progress of sorghum hybrids and the experience gained in France and other European countries.

Markets and Opportunities: Martin Gomez (Head of International Promotion at FNPSMS) will present relevant data at the European level and analyze the development potential of this crop in Romania. Representatives from the industry will round out the discussion by addressing the market outlook for grain sorghum.

Experts’ perspectives: ANFNC (National Association of Compound Feed Manufacturers) and ARCPA (Romanian Association of Agricultural Products Traders) will present their perspectives and share their experience.

2. Field visit

5:30–6:30 p.m. Field visit and conclusion of the technical session

Visit to the demonstration plots: Guided tour of the comparative trial platform with companies including Lidea, KWS, RAGT, Advanta and Alfaseed, each presenting their sorghum hybrids directly in the field.

Hybrids and maturity: Presentation of a demonstration collection of grain sorghum hybrids selected to represent different maturity groups.

Crop management: Review of the cultivation practices tested, from sowing (carried out under uniform conditions between late April and mid-May, at planting densities ranging from 200,000 to 250,000 seeds/ha) through to harvest, including herbicide treatments.

Field demonstration under real conditions: Observation of crop performance under rainfed conditions, reflecting real farming situations and the climatic constraints specific to Romania.

6:30 p.m. – Dinner and networking cocktail: An opportunity to continue discussions and strengthen professional relationships in an informal setting.

3. Social Interaction and Networking

The event offers an opportunity to assess the potential of sorghum, compare the performance of different hybrids, and explore how this crop can be integrated as a sustainable and profitable solution within modern farming systems.
