Consulting Session with Nate Blum: Advancing Sorghum Globally
In his presentation at the European Sorghum Conference, Nate Blum, former CEO of Sorghum United Foundation and of BluMilo shared a clear and pragmatic vision on how to make sorghum a worldwide priority crop. His message – both strategic and operational – was addressed to all actors in the industry who would like to move to the next level.
1. Speak with one voice
“Too often, we move forward as separate entities; each in their own corner”, Nate Blum alerted. “In order to convince the international decision-makers, we need a common narrative that is both simple and impactful. Show them that sorghum is resilient, profitable, and indispensable for food security.” A coherent message is your main “weapon”.
2. Be Methodical
Off-the-cuff arguments are no longer enough. Nate insists: “Base each initiative you take on solid data and actual results. The various establishments out there do not invest in promises, but in solutions that actually work.” Numbers talk, but proof is what convinces.
3. Put Some Life into Your Stories
Statistics alone are not enough. “Humanize sorghum”, Nate recommends. “Tell the public about the successes achieved by the farmers, companies, and regions that have embraced this crop. Stories like these inspire and make your message unforgettable.”
4. Join Forces
Sorghum will never take off in isolation. “Build strong alliances among companies, NGOs, researchers, and institutions”, Nate presses on. “Together, you will create the critical mass needed to transform potential into real impact.” The consulting session showed the way – as with sorghum, the time is no longer that of discussion, but of action. It is time to move from words to results, with method, coherence, and boldness.
